Perth Ladies' Day raises nearly £9,000 for Breast Cancer Now as 8,623 racegoers enjoy two May meetings in the shadow of Scone Palace

The racecourse team look forward to Gold Cup Day on June 7th

with a £110,000 prize fund attracting top horses

FOLLOWING a substantial charity fundraiser for Ladies' Day at Perth Racecourse last month, the team are now putting the finishing touches to the popular Gold Cup Day meeting on June 7th.

Led by Director of Racing Matthew Taylor, the day features the Gold and Silver Cups for two tough handicap steeplechases, where the team will bring together racing greats from the UK and Ireland to racegoers along with live music to round of the meeting.

The total prize fund for the day is £110,000, with £34,000 going to the winner of the Gold Cup and £20,000 to the Silver Cup victor.

The Gold Cup was first run in 1825 on the historic Old Scone Course, a race which has a long history and is just as popular with racing enthusiasts two centuries later.

A more modern twist is the day rounding off with live music in The Barn from local band Strike A Chord. Meanwhile, the Grandstand Enclosure has views of the parade ring and winners' presentation area, while the Picnic Enclosure allows families bring their own food and enjoy a range of entertainment such as the bouncy castle, balloon slide and Equalizer Bungee.

In May, at the Ladies' Day race meeting, over £8,500 was raised for Breast Cancer Now, the UK's leading breast cancer charity focusing on scientific breakthroughs, support and campaigns.

Shaunna Rushton, community fundraising manager for the North, Midlands and Scotland for Breast Cancer Now, said: "A huge thank you to Perth Racecourse and everyone who made the event possible for the fantastic fundraising through Ladies' Day.

"The event means so much to us - not only do the generous donations support Breast Cancer Now's life-changing support and life-saving research, but it's also an opportunity to speak to people whose lives have been touched by this devastating disease."

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Scotland , every year around 5,270 women and 40 men are diagnosed and around 81,000 are living with or beyond the disease, said Shaunna.

One of the highlights of Ladies' Day is the fashion competition to decide on the Grand Lady of 2026, supported by Tiger Lily Boutique.

The winner was Kirsten Coakley who was awarded £1,000 cash and £1,000 to spend at Tiger Lily Boutique alongside a personal shopping experience. The Best Headwear prize went to Isobel Kirk and Best Suit to Ewan Webster.

The two May meetings - the Murrayshall Country Estate Day and Edinburgh Gin's Ladies Day - attracted 8623 racegoers

Director of Racing Matthew Taylor is hoping for even more visitors for Perth Gold Cup Day. He said: "The Perth Gold Cup is one of the biggest fixtures on our National Hunt calendar, it is a Class 2 handicap chase run over approximately three miles for staying chasers.

"The 2025 race was won by Statuario, trained by Peter and Michael Bowen and ridden by Sean Bowen."

Matt will provide The Equine Times with some tips for the Perth Gold Cup meeting once declations have been made.
