British Dressage and the Scottish Racing Academy partner to grow
education opportunities in Scotland
British Dressage has partnered with the Scottish Racing Academy to offer new education opportunities to equestrians, with the delivery of the BD Apprenticeship now available to equine enthusiasts aged 16 and over, living and working in Scotland.
The programme is aimed at employers and employees across the country to assist in providing nationally recognised qualifications to those working within the industry.
The Scottish Racing Academy are the training provider for the programme, delivering a Generic Horse Care Modern Apprenticeship (incorporating Dressage) course at Level 5 and Level 6. The courses are designed to be a personalised and flexible way of learning.
British Dressage Head of Development Charlotte Osborne said: “We’re committed to providing an inclusive, accessible route into equestrian sport – unlocking these opportunities in Scotland is the next step to achieving this goal.
"Our team are very much looking forward to working with the Scottish Racing Academy in welcoming new pupils to the programme and supporting them on their journey."
Fiona Rawson, Scottish Racing Academy Chief Executive, said: “The Scottish Racing Academy is excited to partner with British Dressage to roll out the delivery of the Modern Apprenticeship to a wider equestrian audience across Scotland.
"The Generic Horse Care qualifications offer an inclusive pathway into the equestrian industry and extending them to the dressage community creates even more opportunities for a young and developing workforce.”
British Dressage provide fully funded additional activities to apprentices to add value and learning to their chosen qualification, along with providing ongoing support and access to BD's Learning Hub.
The British Dressage employer eligibility criteria ensures that the apprentices will gain experience and learning from experts in their field, tutored by a BD & SRA selected tutor.

Applications for youth inter regionals and Youth Home Nations open
Riders who wish to apply for the BD Scotland Youth Inter Regionals can now make their applications for the competition which takes place on 27th and 28th June at Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre, Cheshire.
The event is a chance for riders to represent their region as part of a team. Those aged under 25 years make up a team of three or four riders with each competitor riding the Youth Rider Skills Test for their squad.
The teams have to have a minimum of three different levels and each region is allowed five teams. There is also the chance to be individual champions. To be selected to compete riders must provide scores and take part in regional training.
Another chance to ride for Scotland for under 25s is the Youth Home Nations which brings together Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales to compete from July 31st to August 2nd at Vale View Equestrian, Melton Mowbray.
Riders can ride tests from Preliminary to Medium or the FEI Children on Horses and from Young Riders.
Scottish riders should contact their Regional Development Officer Ashley Stewart at ashley.stewart@british-dressage.co.uk
BD spring camps in April
The BD Spring Camps start in April, with one held at Lindores and another at Morris Equestrian.
On April 12th the one-day camp with Caroline Paterson and Shelagh Steven at Lindores Equestrian, Fife, includes two shared 45-minute riding sessions where Shelagh will help to improve your horse's way of going and refine your warm-up techniques.
Caroline Paterson will then further develop the warm-up before riders do their chosen dressage test and are given constructive feedback.
Off the horse there will be additional sessions in the Bothy including a lunchtime talk about how to boost scores. The camp is open to senior, youth and non BD members and tests can be chosen from BD, Youth, Quest or Pony Club, or riders can complete their squad assessment for the British Dressage Youth Pathway.
The BD Scotland Spring Camp at Morris Equestrian with Hannah Esberger-Hancock, Harry Payne and Scott Mclellan is on April 14th and 15th.
It includes four shared training sessions with optional polework and test riding along with workshops to help build skills and knowledge.
The cost includes two days of stabling, an evening meal with a quiz on the 15th for campers, and additional dinners are available for family and friends.
The camp is open to senior, youth and non BD members and riders can choose from BD tests or from Youth and Quest tests, or complete the squad assessment for the British Dressage Youth Pathway.
Please see our separate pages with the BD Regionals results from Bogenraith Equestrian and some prizegiving images from the regionals. More news next month on riders who excelled at the event alongside our BD Scotland page.
We also have another article on Quest competitions in this edition for anyone just starting out on their dressage journey.
